Kung Fu

There are two styles of Kung Fu taught within the Dragonfly Martial Arts School.

Zuanshi Quan This is a modern style, aimed at both adults and children of any level or experience, focusing on building self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-control, through the art of self-defence. This system is ideal for persons wishing to learn martial arts, but are unsure of where to begin, and has been designed to increase fitness, co-ordination, strength, and agility. The syllabus, which teaches both Kung Fu and Kickboxing, is the product of over 17yrs experience in martial arts and incorporates a wide variety of techniques from various traditional Chinese systems. In addition to this, there is a grading system, which gives students goals to work towards. A formal certificate and a coloured sash are awarded on completion of each level, reflecting the ability of each individual.

Shaolin Quan Shaolin Kung Fu, as taught at Dragonfly Martial Arts, adheres to the traditional teachings based in the Shaolin Temple in Henan, China. Under the tutelage of 34th Generation Buddhist and Shaolin Monk Shi Xing Jun, Sifu Joe Dymond teaches the student a strong martial foundation. This includes traditional stance training, correct form and posture, punching, blocking, kicking, and locking techniques. Shaolin Qigong training is practiced to enhance the student's Chi flow and skill, along with coordination and the development of speed and power. The use of traditional Shaolin movements helps you to focus on basic techniques that will be incorporated into the Shaolin forms. As you become more proficient in the Shaolin system, traditional weapons are taught including Long Staff, Broadsword, and Spear. Throughout the training, the level of Chi and the circulation of energy become emphasized, and students will learn to use internal power. Traditionally, Shaolin Kung Fu does not have a belt system, however, Sifu Joe Dymond has formulated a curriculum that adheres to the traditional Shaolin training.
